Henlo frens!

Good to see all of you here UwU.

Grab on to your bodypillows, I have a smol announcement about the purpose of this subreddit.

This community is meant as a fun, lighthearted place where we can commiserate with each other about those annoying little irritations that hinder our day to day enjoyment in life.

That means that suitable posts here can be about my children.

And things like a wall socket or tile being placed out of allignment. A crack in a phone screen. Duckling shit on your new car. Incomprehensible software. Mismatched buttons. You know, the little things.

This subreddit isn't meant to incite rage mobs that go after people. For that reason we say:

No reddit meta posts

No posts about being banned from subreddit. No posts about up- or down-votes. No posts about shitty moderators or users or subreddits. No posts about reddit.

All jokes and tomfoolery aside, that sort of thing gets us in trouble with site admins. If we allow one type of post about reddit it then very easily moprhs into allowing posts that directly call out other subreddits or users, we just can't allow any of it.

That rule already existed for years and we have just made it more clearly visible in the sidebar on old and new reddit. We're gonna be a little strict on it for a bit I'm afraid. 🥺

Thank you all for being awesome and have a very Merry Christmas! Celebrate Christmas in the traditional European way, with a suasage roll!

I just wanted a hot dog I lost 55 pounds over the last 12 months and reached the weight suggested by my doctor. I celebrated with a brand new smart scale... that immediately told me my BMI is 30.1 and that I am still obese.

I have been putting in the work. Walking. Eating right. Not cheating on my diet. I had some health issues that my doctor discovered, and I worked really hard to get to a goal weight of 208 pounds. I finally hit my goal weight. I bought a smart scale to celebrate and memorialize where I'm at today. And the first thing it did was tell me I was obese and send me a notification asking if I would like weight loss advice.

Sometimes you just feel like life is 5 steps forward and 10 steps back.

I feel like this post flair is appropriate.

EDIT: wow thanks guys I didn’t know this would blow up! To answer some questions: It is an apartment, it is America, I even live on the third floor on a corner so it would have barely infiltrated anyone else’s apartment. I will follow up with an email stating that the indecent was smoke from some overcooked bacon, the ventilation system over the stove just kicks the smoke back out into the apartment above the microwave then there’s a vent around TWO corners by the door basically doing nothing so opening the door is pretty much necessary if any good hits its smoke point.

I have lived here for 3 years and I quit smoking over 6 years ago. When I called they said the email was “just a courtesy.”

I'm slightly vexed New colleague reported me sleeping on my lunch break, lost a whole shift w/ overtime as a result

Thumbnail

For context, I am a full-time hospital security officer who works graveyard shifts, and I often sleep on my lunch break because I can't consume caffeine like a normal person. I cannot leave my site. There's an unused place in the old part of the hospital that has virtually no foot traffic from anyone other than fellow security personnel checking the emergency exit door nearby, and I use it to rest in because it's more comfortable than the shitty break room we have.

Recently, we've had a few new hires that joined our team. One of them saw me as I woke up to my alarm, and he advised me that I really shouldn't sleep there, telling me that the client would probably report me if they ever caught me (they never did care, even when a random client did discover me). I just kind of figured that he was just legitimately concerned for me, but too inexperienced to realize how little anyone really cares. I assured him that it probably was going to be alright, and went back to my post.

This morning, I received this text from my Post Commander telling me to take the night off. I had overtime lined up for me tonight, and I'm going to miss it because of that new guy who was so concerned that the client would report me that he reported me himself.

I understand that we have a no-sleeping policy for a reason, but I think it's bullshit how I'm being reported for shit literally everybody does. I've seen nurses sleep in the fucking ICU/Med-Surg waiting rooms, for Christ's sake, and nobody gave a shit about that when I called my supervisor. The nurse even chewed my ass off for waking them up, and they didn't care about that either.

UPDATE:

I've received communication that I am suspended, pending an investigation. Unfortunately, this means that it's highly likely that I'll be terminated soon.

I'd like to clear some things up about the situation. While I agree with you that the floor is a disgusting place to rest, I was not laying flat on the ground or anything like that, and the carpet had been replaced/cleaned recently. I would prop my head and upper-back up on the wall, using my backpack as a cushion. The reason I was on the floor is because it was comfortable that way.

As for why I reported the nurse, it was because part of my job was making sure people don't remain in the hospital past visiting hours when they are not permitted to. I didn't simply report the nurse to get them in trouble. I had called my supervisor when I saw somebody sleeping in the waiting room, asked what I should do, and they told me to wake them. Before waking them, I had checked the nearby departments to see if they knew of anyone who would be sleeping in the waiting room (family, staff, etc.), and they did not. I only found out the nurse was a nurse when I woke them, and I advised my supervisor about it to follow up. I asked if they wanted an incident report created for rule-breaking activity, and they said it was unnecessary.

Honestly, I'm quite taken aback at the pure negativity I've seen in these comments. People are calling me a snitch and saying that I think I'm the same as a nurse. I was just trying to do my job, and I was mildly infuriated that the rules don't apply to everyone. I thought I could get some rest in the room despite the policy because of a long history of unenforcement, not because I thought I deserved it more than anyone else.

Anyway, I hope you all are happy. My job is (probably) gone now. I won't be able to pay my rent, or my car bill, or my health insurance, or my healthcare that I need for Crohn's disease. I might not be able to pay for the rest of my college that I just recently applied to for the fall. Really, I am cooked, like many of you wanted me to be. Enjoy.

ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ Entitled couple at movie theater expected us to give our assigned seats up so they could sit together

My partner and I bought tickets to see the new Scary Movie on opening night. We have AMC A-list, so we typically get our tickets ahead of time to get good seats. In this particular instance, I literally got tickets the day they were available. We sat through the usual half-hour or so of movie trailers, and right as the lights shut off for the show, I saw a couple heading down our aisle; they ultimately sat in the two empty seats on either side of us. About ten seconds went by before they lean over to ask us if we can rearrange our seating arrangement so that they could sit together.

In a lot of instances, this wouldn’t be the end of the world. However, here are some contextual reasons why this was infuriating behavior on their part:

  1. They showed up and started asking us to move as the opening logos were showing. Had they shown up even 5 minutes earlier than that, it would have been way easier to verbally rationalize with them, but at this point they were talking through the movie to try to get us to rearrange.

  2. The movie was playing in Dolby format. If you’ve ever been to a Dolby theater, then you know that not only are seats assigned, but the seats are arranged in sets of 2. So if we rearranged ourselves the way they suggested, everyone would actually be sharing a seat with a complete stranger.

  3. I like to check the seating arrangement of the auditorium shortly before the show begins, and less than half an hour before the show started, the two seats on either side of us were empty, meaning this couple walked up to buy tickets at the last possible second.

  4. After the show was over, I stood up and noticed dozens of empty pairs of seats, so they still could have gotten seats together but decided it was more important to sit dead center.

  5. The couple had a large popcorn and large soda, presumably to share, but since they were sitting so far away, they had to each take one or the other. This was honestly what set me off the most, because it made it clear the couple was just assuming that whoever they bought their tickets around would be willing to uncritically change seats.

  6. The couple was on their phones the entire time, I can only assume they were just texting each other.

TLDR: This couple didn’t get tickets ahead of time, barely made it to the movie on time, bought separate seats at the last possible second despite options to sit together, bought a popcorn and soda to share fully expecting us to rearrange ourselves after the movie had already started, and then texted each other the entire movie when we wouldn’t rearrange ourselves in a manner where nobody wins.

So yeah! Definitely mildly infuriating to me, especially the fact that they apparently couldn’t make it through a 90 minute movie without texting each other the whole time. Baffling on so many different levels but thankfully it didn’t ruin the movie for us.

🥺 The World Cup is broadcast FREE in a dozen countries, but I have to pay $80/month for a sports bundle because of the country I happen to live in

The UK airs every match free on ITV and BBC. Australia airs all 104 free on SBS. Mexico has it free on open TV.

Me? My only legal option is a bloated sports streaming package that costs more per month than the entire tournament should, bundled with 40 channels I will never open.

Same matches. Same broadcast. Same planet. The only difference is which side of an invisible line my router sits on.

It's not even about the money at this point, it's the principle. Geo-licensing in 2026 is mildly infuriating bordering on fully infuriating.

frist of all how DARE yu o Discovered my central air was a social construct…

15.6k Upvotes

So I just learned I’ve been living in a place with absolutely no central air conditioning. Not “I assumed it might be central air.” Not “I wasn’t sure how it worked.” I mean I fully, confidently, emotionally lived my life under the assumption that cool air was being distributed through vents like a normal adult homeowner situation.

And I’ve been out here adjusting a thermostat like I was doing something for over 4 years.

I even scheduled an HVAC guy to come today to figure out why my central air wasn’t running.
What system? I don’t know. The guy looked like he found a body in my basement as he clearly knew I didn’t have central air instantly. He even humored me to prove to me I didn’t have central air while we took 2 full laps around my house hunting for the outside part of the freakin’ fantasy. Needless to say we never found it. The poor guy felt so bad for me, he even said “maybe someone stole it.” Bless his heart.

So now I’ve got: a couple window units doing God’s work. I’ve always used them in the summer when I felt that my imaginary central air wasn’t pulling its weight. So I’m unsure why I feel like my summer bill is going to skyrocket. I’ve been living this life for years.

I put a box fan in my the bathroom like it’s 1998
and the realization I’ve been paying attention to vents that were decorative at best is giving me a stomach ache.

Honestly the worst part isn’t even the heat. It’s the fact I fully believed I had central air and never once questioned it. Just vibed in ignorance.
Anyway. If anyone needs me I’ll be sitting directly in front of a fan rethinking my entire life, having a spiritual crisis, feeling like a doorknob, and rediscovering whatever I thought HVAC meant.

***please laugh with me— don’t kick me while m down— I already feel like a weenie hut jr.***

I used FireFox's generate a secure password feature but it's not secure enough I guess. Also, when I first got to the page, it simple said "Passwords must between 8 and 15 characters" and no other requirements. Now it's saying passwords must have at least 12 characters. Surely that reduces the search space more than anything.

Now, before anyone says "but you don't understand the pressures they're under" I've been driving for Uber eats and Doordash for 6 months.

This though does my fucking head in, it's not like you can't see the table, it's fucking right there. It in fact would be easier to put the food on the table than bend over and put it on the floor.

Infuriatig FedEx driver blocked TWO disabled spots AND the wheelchair curb ramp for 15+ minutes just to grab lunch (CVC 22507.8, 22522, and 22500)

What a sickening violation of the ADA. I am so tired of ignorant people like this; committing an act like this (seen in the images) is a litmus test for someone who is completely indifferent to the basic rights and independence of others. It is lazy, entitled, and a total slap in the face to even the basest levels of decency.

Here I am, out for a nice day, and I see this as I come about the corner: A FedEx truck blocking two disabled spots and the curb ramp. I have the time stamps: It was there for at least 15 minutes. And, regrettably it is "at least", for they were already "parked" when we turned the corner. What were they doing? It really does not matter, as what they were doing was against the law, but it adds to the infuriation: They came out of the burger joint with to-go bag (or leftovers, I did not ask them :P).

I have already emailed [integrity@fedex.com](mailto:integrity@fedex.com), including the exact location and time, with these images (as well as a few more).

Stuff like this is such a slap in the face to decency.

A bit of law to amplify common sense (for the minority--for the rest of us it's added vindication that law exists): California Vehicle Code (CVC) clearly identifies this situation as illegal:
* CVC § 22507.8 (a) & (b): Illegal Parking and Obstruction of Disabled Spaces.
* CVC § 22522: Blocking Sidewalk Access Ramps:
* CVC § 22500 (h): Double Parking

Additionally, FedEx is a private commercial corporation. Their drivers have zero federal immunity. They are fully subject to state traffic laws, local municipal codes, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Lastly, let's call out that ignorant inflammatory statement of "they are just doing their job": That is not justification, that is a fallacy known as "the appeal to authority" fallacy, and is nothing but a pathetic excuse which collapses under even the most basic reasoning and logic.

The driver has absolutely no legal or ethical defense.
